The UAE’s Oldest Golf Club Has Had A Complete Makeover In Both Name And Design

The Abu Dhabi City Golf Club began life as the Abu Dhabi Golf & Equestrian Club in 1976. For 22 years it was an 18-hole sand course but, in 1998, it was transformed into Abu Dhabi’s first all grass course. Its nine holes were designed by the respected British golf course designer Ian Scott Taylor.

Since then, thousands of golfers have enjoyed matching their skills against the tricky nine holes encircled by the Abu Dhabi Equestrian horse racing track in the Al Mushrif area, just minutes from the hustle and bustle of the capital city’s town centre.

From today (Thursday, 10th of December) however, the club is known as the Abu Dhabi City Golf Club and members and guests will be astounded by its new look.
All nine holes have been improved with new fairways and greens which will give every golfer, whether a high or low handicapper, plenty to think about.

The newly constructed golf greens are now offering a sterner test of Golf. There are also more challenging tees - none more so than at the par three seventh. The green on the ninth hole has been moved to the edge of the water, thus creating a thrilling climax to the end of your round. Any shot finishing too short of the flag will almost certainly mean a watery death.

However, it is not just the course which has been upgraded. The Abu Dhabi City Golf Club has purchased a fleet of new carts all equipped with Golf-Cart GPs. Also, the UAE’s first 2-tiered driving range is under construction and will allow players to practice in a shaded area. The two tiers have 36 bays - 30 of which are covered, and equipped with fans. This change to the Abu Dhabi City Golf Club’s Academy will give members and guests the opportunity to practice all year round more conveniently.

Being provided with a Flood-lit Course in the heart of Abu Dhabi, allows players with busy schedules to conveniently book tee times at significantly extended evening hours.

The club has always been proud of its commitment to junior golf, and around 300 youngsters, aged from four to 18, use the course regularly in the hope of one day emulating their golfing heroes.

The practice range, the course and the club’s well established facilities are open to members and visitors alike.

The re-launch of the Abu Dhabi City Golf Club underlines its efforts to bring challenging but affordable golf to the UAE’s growing golfing community and anyone interested in playing - whether it be as a new member or a guest - should contact the club on 02 445 9600.
