Knowledge Without Borders Buys 20,000 Books From Emirates Publishers Association

As part of its eagerness to further support the library establishment process, the management of the Knowledge Without Borders initiative has agreed to purchase 20,000 books exclusively from the Emirates Publishers Association members.

The books will, be distributed to various beneficiaries, in line with the KWB’s strategy, over the coming period.

The step is highly appreciated by cultural communities as it serves the interest of this sector while strengthening the position of UAE authors and the reputation of the publishing industry on a large scale.

The initiative marks a new achievement in the march towards distributing a variety of books to governmental and private departments, to organizations and to the UAE community. It is set to enhance the role of various cultural institutions, to develop the UAE cultural sector to higher levels that meet the aspirations of UAE and Arab intellectuals, and to boost the position of the Emirati culture on a local, regional and international level.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organizing Committee of Knowledge without Borders, said: "This step reflects the high sense of joint responsibility shown by departments, cultural institutions and publishers during a period of challenges facing the cultural sector. It is highly important, in the current cultural environment, to empower private enterprises and to find the necessary tools to help shape the Arab cultural identity. Building a cultural identity is a process that should be based on solid cultural and intellectual foundations. It requires an independent and strong foundation due to its profound influence on human production."

She added: "This initiative forms part of KWB’s keenness to develop the roles of other cultural institutions in the emirate. It proves the vital role of the EPA in adding momentum to the cultural development process in the UAE. The agreement with EPA reflects the association’s desire to build a cultural integration that can cope with governmental strategies. In achieving this integration, the EPA regards cooperation and coordination in all aspects in a manner that serves the cultural and intellectual interests of the emirate, particularly in relation to promoting a culture of reading in order to create active and effective public opinion."

The initiative’s Project Coordinator, Rashid Al Kous, said: "This important and valuable initiative contributes and supports culture, as it will enable the EPA to enhance its position on the cultural landscape. Beneficiaries from the books and libraries will expand their knowledge by reading these collections of valuable books, written by the best authors across various genres. We are confident that this initiative will be widely dispersed and that it will pave the way for similar initiatives in the future." The genre of books varies from literary to religious, health, historical, children’s stories and global tales, among other collections of useful books that suit all ages and that meet the interests of all family members. The books will be distributed in accordance with the plan adopted by Knowledge without Borders.
