The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) urged the emirate’s private sector to strengthen bilateral trade relations with China and explore investment opportunities, during a meeting with a special Chinese trade delegation from the industrial city of Wenling. The meeting is part of the local chamber’s strategic thrust to aid the development of Sharjah’s business sector and attract more foreign investment opportunities into the area. During the visit, the SCCI made a comprehensive presentation to the Chinese delegation on the current investment opportunities that the emirate has to offer and later entered into a discussion on how to enhance trade relations between Sharjah and China.

Present during the meeting were Mohammed Sultan Bin Howaiden, Senior Vice President, SCCI; Mohammed Salim Al Mashrakh, Board Member, SCCI; Khalid Bin Butti, Assistant Director General for Membership and Branches Affairs and Mohammed Ahmed Amin, Assistant Director General for Economic and International Affairs, SCCI. The visiting Chinese delegation comprised Ye Haiyan, Senior Consultant of people’s Government of Wenling city; Chen Weiping, Deputy Director, General Chamber of Commerce of Wenling City and other officials representing Wenling city’s different economic segments.

Mohammed Sultan Bin Howaiden, said: “Through the years, China has maintained strong trade relations with the UAE in general and Sharjah in particular. Our healthy relationship with China has resulted in an increased investment volume and trade rates and strong participation in key economic activities such as exhibitions, trade shows and exchange programs involving businessmen and trade delegations. Moreover, the visit of the Chinese delegation from the industrial city of Wenling allows us to explore investment and trade opportunities between China and the UAE, Sharjah in particular. The SCCI affirms its commitment to provide the essential facilities, information and infrastructure needed to help strengthen the economic bonds between China and Sharjah.”

In response to the warm reception they received, the Chinese delegation also affirmed its support towards the efforts to maintain strong bilateral trade ties between the two countries--continuously engaging in mutual trade visits and participation in trade fairs, exhibitions and information exchange events such as conferences and seminars. The delegation also invited members of the SCCI to come see the industrial city of Wenling. After the meeting, the Chinese officials and businessmen were taken on a tour of the SCCI headquarters and a visit to the Industrial Products Permanent Exhibition, which is organized by the chamber.

The SCCI continues to work closely with various government agencies and authorities to help reinforce the emirate’s position as an ideal investment hub for the Middle East region. Under its various programs and initiatives, the chamber aims to showcase Sharjah’s unique features and advantages as a premier destination for business opportunities and help in strengthening the emirate’s economic development—bringing it one step closer towards its goal of achieving total sustainable development.
