Annual event aims to strengthen partnership between Sharjah’s private and public sectors

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) announced the launch of this year’s Sharjah Ramadan Festival during a press conference held yesterday (Monday, August 9, 2010) at the SCCI headquarters in Sharjah, UAE. During the press conference, SCCI named this year’s list of sponsors and unveiled the events and activities that will take place during the festival. Sharjah Ramadan Festival 2010, which will include various promotional and marketing activities across the emirate, is part of the local chamber’s strategic initiatives and programs that aim to strengthen and enhance the working relationship between Sharjah’s private and public sector.

Present during the event were Khalid Bin Butti Bin Obaid, member of the Supreme Organising Committee, Sharjah Ramadan Festival and Mohammed Ahmed Amin, General Coordinator for the Festival. Also present were SCCI board members, officials and representatives from both the emirate’s public and private sectors and journalists from several publications.

The Sharjah Ramadan Festival is one of the emirate’s most awaited annual events and draws a huge number of participants from different social, business, cultural, religious, sports, environmental and heritage sectors. The event is organized by the SCCI in collaboration with various local governmental departments to determine and provide the necessary elements to ensure the success of the festivities, with strong support from its numerous sponsors.

Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa, Chairman, SCCI and Vice President of the Supreme Organising Committee, Sharjah Ramadan Festival, said, “We are pleased to announce the launch of Sharjah Ramadan Festival 2010. This year’s edition, which will showcase a diverse number of marketing and promotional activities throughout the emirate, reflects the chamber’s continuing efforts to foster cooperation, coordination and communication between government agencies and departments and Sharjah’s business sector. The SCCI acknowledges the strong support of this year’s sponsors, which matches the chamber’s eagerness to organize the event by allotting a special budget to help cover the different activities of the festival. Moreover, to add more color to the festival, we will also be giving away valuable prizes to shoppers and visitors at the participating commercial establishments.”

Speaking at the conference, Khalid Bin Butti Bin Obaid said, “The Sharjah Ramadan Festival is an excellent platform that allows the chamber to showcase the importance of observing and celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadan by holding various cultural, religious, educational and entertainment activities throughout the emirate. The events include a Ramadan exhibition and other activities that will underline the importance of Ramadan. The SCCI will also be holding activities that are aimed at increasing foot traffic and sales in Sharjah’s large number of central markets, shopping centers and other commercial establishments.”

Mohammed Ahmed Amin added that last year’s edition of the festival generated AED 730 million in sales from all the participating commercial establishments. He shared that the success of the event lies in the festival’s diverse set of activities and events. “Aside from observing the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Sharjah Ramadan Festival also aims to bolster sales and tourism activities by encouraging shopping malls, travel agencies and tourism facilities to participate in the emirate-wide event. There is a lot to look forward to this year as we have carefully selected the events and activities that will be held during the festival. One of the most distinguished events that we will be holding is the special Ramadan Exhibition that will be held at the Sharjah Expo Center. We thank this year’s sponsors for helping the chamber in its efforts to strengthen the ties between the public and private sector and helping us package Sharjah as an ideal tourism and investment destination.”

The SCCI continues to work closely with various government agencies and authorities to help reinforce the emirate’s position as an ideal investment hub for the Middle East region. Through its various programs and initiatives, the chamber aims to showcase Sharjah’s unique features and advantages as a premier destination for business and tourism opportunities, while underlining its role in contributing towards the emirate’s economic development—bringing it one step closer towards its goal of achieving total sustainable development.
