Sharjah Chamber Forges Strategic Partnership With FedEx

Agreement to complement SCCI’s focus on providing members with special value-added services

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has recently signed a strategic partnership agreement with FedEx, one of the world’s largest logistics services company, to provide special courier services and products for its members. Under the terms of the agreement, FedEx will provide the SCCI with key document and package transportation services—with packages and documents picked up from the SCCI headquarters and delivered to any point within FedEx’s coverage area. The move demonstrates the SCCI’s strong commitment to provide special value-added services and benefits that can help members in their efforts to improve and enhance their businesses.

Signing the partnership agreement were Khaled Bin Butti Bin Obaid, Assistant Director General for Membership and Branch Affairs, SCCI and Hamdi Osman, Senior Vice President Operations – Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Africa and GSP markets. Also present to witness the signing were Ahmad Saleh Al Ajlah, Assistant Director, Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre; Mohammed Obeid Ailan, Origin Official; and representatives from both FedEx and the SCCI.

Khaled Bin Butti Bin Obaid, Assistant Director General for Membership and Branch Affairs, SCCI, said, “Our new partnership with FedEx is part of the SCCI’s Membership Management Plan, a strategic initiative that is aimed at providing our members with world class services that can help them in their efforts to increase and improve efficiencies, productivity and profit. Our choice to partner with FedEx, which is known worldwide as a leading courier services company, is the result of the chamber’s search for a company that could provide our members with key services and products that do not compromise on quality and strictly adheres to set terms and conditions. Moreover, this new partnership not only complements our thrust to provide more value added services to our members but also helps us in the bid to position Sharjah as an ideal business and investment destination in the Middle East region.”

Under the new partnership, FedEx will provide SCCI members with services that include the installation of automated devices in strategic locations to enhance efficiency and reduce paperwork; assigning a FedEx representative to be stationed at the SCCI headquarters; special receipt and delivery services and the development of solutions for special projects on a case-to-case basis. Aside from the agreed key services and products, FedEx will also provide SCCI members with strategic customer service training and will also assist the chamber in organizing private sector symposiums—introducing Sharjah’s business sector to best practices that can be adopted to increase productivity and efficiency.

FedEx has also affirmed its commitment to work closely with the SCCI’s Membership Department; allowing the chamber’s members and their clients to benefit from the company’s shipping, tracking, customized reports and e-billing services. FedEx’s unique tracking technologies allow its customers to track their packages and parcels using shipper-generated numbers and FedEx waybill numbers. FedEx’s automated tracking methods include stand-alone shipping systems; software solutions that integrate with shipper’s in-house systems; PC-based software applications and website tracking, which are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx, provides its services to more than 220 countries around the world via an international air and land network that allows them to deliver high priority shipments within one or two working days. Aiming to bring the world closer to its clients in the UAE, the company has recently opened the first international service center in Sharjah. The new center, which will facilitate FedEx service delivery requirements for Sharjah and the northern emirates, contains all needed shipping and packaging materials to meet the client’s diverse shipping requirements and enables the customer to pay by cash, credit card, or through their special FedEx account number.
