As part of its ongoing efforts to fight commercial fraud in the emirate, the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) has seized 37,000 fake circuit breakers bearing international brand names. Hamad Al Midfaa, Deputy Director of SEDD’s Legal Affairs Section, said the department was able to seize all the counterfeit electric goods before it could be circulated in the country. “The agent of the electric goods filed a complaint about fake electric products bearing international brand names being sold in the emirate. SEDD formed a team to follow up on the complaint, and has taken the necessary actions against those involved in trading in fake products,” Al Midfaa said. "As part of its strategy to fight commercial fraud and counterfeit products, SEDD was able to send its inspectors to raid the infringer’s premises. It seized all the counterfeit goods after tracking the fake electric cables and was able to identify those who were receiving these cables and who were then selling them to shops inside and outside the country. Sharjah Police have arrested members of the gang, who have confessed to the charges,” he added. “This will be done after ensuring that the cables are indeed counterfeit, after completing the legal procedures and after meeting with agents,” he said, adding that the seized products include 37,000 counterfeit circuit breakers that can cause fires. |
