Support For Industrial Sector Helps Promote UAE Exports And Bolsters Development, Says SCCI Chairman

Sharjah Chamber to host exhibition of locally made products as Sharjah becomes country’s industrial sector model with over 1,454 registered companies and AED 81 billion worth of investments

Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Chairman Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa stressed on the importance of supporting the country’s industrial sector in the bid to increase export activity and help bolster development in Sharjah and the rest of the UAE. The head of the local chamber further pointed out that the strong show of support coming from both the local and private sector have helped make the UAE in general and Sharjah in particular, an ideal investment destination in the Middle East region. In fact, Sharjah is now recognized as a model for the industrial sector with over 1,454 registered industrial establishments, AED 81 billion worth of investments and a workforce of 82,000 people. To complement this continued growth, the SCCI will again host the ‘Made in Sharjah Show’, an event that will showcase the Emirate’s locally made products and services from November 21 to November 25, 2010 at the Sharjah Expo Center.

The event, which is being held in collaboration with Sharjah Expo Center, will target the participation of the emirate’s industrial establishments; previous winners of the Sharjah Economic Excellence Award (SEEA); and SCCI members whose products and services are currently on display at the permanent exhibition of local products at the chamber’s headquarters. The exhibition will provide participants an opportunity to showcase and market their products to key suppliers and traders from local and regional markets and also meet directly with different UAE consumers.

Al Midfa said, “The UAE’s industrial sector has achieved so much thanks to the strong support and guidance from H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President. Under his guidance, the number of industrial establishments in the UAE has reached 4,640 and has given employment opportunities to more than 347,000 people. This success is equally shared by the emirate of Sharjah, which is being looked at as the country’s model for the industrial sector. Ably guided by the vision and support of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Emirate has become a favored investment destination for investors looking for a strategic and ideal venue for their businesses. Moreover, the ‘Made in Sharjah Show’ is part of the SCCI’s commitment to provide local businesses with a platform where they can promote their products and services—stirring more economic activity and helping double the rate of contribution to the country’s GDP.”

Aside from Sharjah-based businesses, the exhibition will also feature SME’s from other parts of the UAE. The event will also highlight the launching of the new ‘Made in Sharjah’ slogan; a branding activity that is expected to help promote the quality of local products and their competitive prices and help strengthen business ties between producers, local exporters and importers from other countries.

The SCCI’s “Made in Sharjah” initiative is an integrated promotional system that provides support for locally made products. The program covers nine major areas of development, promotion and advertising of local products. These areas include the “Made in Sharjah” exhibition, the “Made in Sharjah” trademark, the promotional plan for the permanent exhibition, a short video documentary entitled “Made in Sharjah”, the monthly electronic newsletter “Made in Sharjah”, a special section on commercial.com, the largest commercial website in the Middle East, the exports good directory, a standardized specifications program and a series of training and rehabilitation programs currently being implemented by the Chamber in relation to the “Made in Sharjah” initiative.
