New environmental education programme supported by Dana Gas to benefit 100,000 pupils across 145 schools in SharjahBee’ah - The Sharjah Environment Company, today launched the Bee’ah School of Environment, an innovative education initiative designed to help school teachers coach pupils on environmental responsibility. The Bee’ah School of Environment, sponsored by Dana Gas and endorsed by the Sharjah Education Zone, was officially launched during a media conference held at teh Bee’ah booth during the International Education Show in Sharjah. H.E. Salim Bin Mohammed Al Owais, Bee’ah’s Chairman, said the idea behind the Bee’ah School of Environment was born as a response to 98 percent of teachers in Sharjah schools expressing that they did not have the facilities or teaching tools to make a difference to their school’s environment and teach students to be environmentally responsible. “While the majority of Sharjah’s teachers are committed to making a difference, our survey found that they are in desperate need of additional resources and tools, such as lesson plans and visual aids. According to our survey, teachers have also indicated a need for additional training, workshops and seminars. The Bee’ah School of Environment offers teachers a bilingual (Arabic and English) platform to engage students to learn about environmental responsibility using interactive lesson plans. These lessons have been developed to offer a fun-filled learning experience and can be applied either in classrooms or eco-clubs. A highlight of each lesson plan is that it can be integrated easily into the existing curricula, and has been grouped according to school subjects to which they are related. Talking about the unique leadership role Sharjah fulfilled on the cultural and educational fronts, Al Huraimel added that the emirate was also at the forefront of promoting green issues. According to Al Huraimel, the collective commitment to the environment, as shown by Bee’ah and the Sharjah Government, as well as corporate partners like Dana Gas, presented environmentally aware investors with blossoming opportunities in Sharjah. “I believe that the establishment of the Bee’ah School of Environment has once again made Sharjah a leader in environmental responsibility in the Middle East. I hope that the school will inspire others to move in the same direction,” he concluded. Established in 2007 by an Emiri decree of the Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Bee’ah acts as a community partner in cooperation with the Sharjah Municipality and addresses pressing environmental issues to improve the standard of living for all in the Emirate of Sharjah by promoting the protection of the environment. Bee’ah provides fully integrated environmental strategic solutions and services for commercial, industrial and residential groups , with its primary mission being to help transform Sharjah into a green emirate with sustainable environmental best practices. |
