Sharjah Museums Department Participates In Sharjah International Book Fair 2010

Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) is participating in Sharjah International Book Fair 2010 being held at the Expo Centre Sharjah until November 6, 2010. SMD’s pavilion is at hall 3.

Sharjah Museums Department is showcasing a variety of its recent publications that focus on the permanent art and artefacts collections of its various museums and publications on prestigious collections displayed in temporary exhibitions hosted in Sharjah museums over the past 2 years. Some of the books and catalogues include: “Treasures from Kuwait”, “Eternal Letters”, “Masterpieces from the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization”, “Lasting Impressions”, "Focus Orient", and “Athar Sharjah”. There are also a set of individual guide books on all the 19 museums in Sharjah. All publications are available in Arabic and English.

A special publication is the first children’s book to be published by SMD in cooperation with KALIMAT publishing. The story titled “Hamdan and Alia in the Sharjah Archaeology Museum,” by author Khalid Hussein Mansoor, targets younger readers and is a wonderful story of a family day out where each member learns something new about the history of Sharjah and has a great experience together in the museum.

“The Sharjah Book Fair plays a vital role in providing books in Arabic and English that cover different areas of knowledge for people of all ages to explore and discover. We believe that the role of museums is to share as much knowledge as we can about our collections and why they are meaningful to our history and our identity. Publishing bilingual books that allow more people access to this information for their personal enjoyment and for academic purposes is very important. Through our participation, we are reiterating this message,” said Manal Ataya, Director General, SMD.

Also on sale at the pavilion are unique high-quality stationery items from the specialised retail shops of Sharjah Museums including bookmarks, notepads, pencils and magnets, among others.

The Sharjah Museums Department, established in 2006 by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, aims to promote the emirate’s rich legacy of arts, heritage and culture.
