Sharjah Museums Department Hosts Nahar Marzooq’s ’Tunes Of Letters’ Exhibition At The Calligraphy Museum

Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) is hosting an exhibition of Saudi Arabian artist and calligrapher Nahar Marzooq under the theme, "Tunes of Letters" at the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum until February 16, 2011. The exhibition is in line with SMD’s continuous efforts to support budding and established artists by showcasing their works of art. All exhibtions at the museum focus on artists that hail from various Arab countries and whose work particularly reflects the various facets of calligraphy from the traditional to the contemporary.

The exhibition features 25 art works of the recognized Saudi Arabian artist, and sheds light on contemporary calligraphic works focusing on the versatility and beauty of Arabic letters. These arbitrary arabic letters are woven into a story with silhouettes of women in a number of his works displayed currently in the museum. His works communicate fundamental ideas on importance of the Arabic language in strengthening Arab identity, celebrating our deep Islamic and Arab roots, and the need to evolve the calligraphic practice into new expressions," said Manal Ataya, Director General of Sharjah Museum Department (SMD).

"The Tunes of Letters Exhibition highlights the talent of Nahar Marzooq and also serves as a perfect opportunity to attract diverse audience of calligraphy and contemporary art enthusiasts, as they discover how the appreciation of Arabic calligraphy and Arabic letters has led to unique contemporary manifestations and interpretations," she added.

Sharjah Calligraphy Museum is the only museum in the Arab World that is specialized in Arabic calligraphic arts. It takes visitors on a rewarding journey to discover centuries of rich Arab and Islamic heritage in the form of wonderful texts. The Museum houses a permanent collection and periodically hosts temporary exhibition displaying calligraphic art from primarily from Arab countries

"I am pleased to introduce my latest art works at the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, as it is an ideal platform to share this form of art with our audiences. I would like to thank Sharjah Museums Departments for their continuous support to art and aspiring artists," said Nahar Marzooq.

Nahar Marzooq was born in Saudi Arabia in 1970 and is an accomplished artist in the Kingdom. He is a graduate of art and education (from where please add more bio info details?) and held several senior positions in the field of fine arts. The renowned calligrapher is an active member of many arts organizations and has won many awards in Calligraphy.

The Sharjah Museums Department, established in 2006 by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, aims to promote the emirate’s rich legacy of arts, heritage and culture.
