Sharjah International Airport Sees Air Traffic Growth By 9.4 Per Cent To 6.3 Million Passengers In 2010











The Sharjah International Airport registered record passenger growth by 9.41 per cent to 6. 31 million passengers compared to 2009.

According to the statistical report of the year ended Dec. 31, 2010, the number of passengers at the airport rose to 6.31 million passengers compared to 5.7 million passengers in 2009. Meanwhile, the flights traffic through the airport in the same period reached 65, 401 flights against 61, 451 in 2009, increasing by 6.43 per cent annually.

The report reflects the airport’s efficiency in tackling the repercussions of the World Financial Crisis, which hit the global aviation industry.

The airport authorities disclosed that the handling of marine-air cargo volume grew by 32. 39 per cent to 66, 665 tones against 50, 355 tones in 2009. The volume of cargo grew to 514, 881 tones against 393, 938 tones in 2009, increasing by 30.7 per cent annually.

Dr Ghanem Al Hagiri, director general of the Sharjah International Airport Authority said the year 2010 was one of the significant years to the airport as it scored record growth regarding passenger or cargo volume amid the financial global crunch.
