Manal Ataya, Director General says:” we participate this year as a result of the success we achieved in the past years when we participated in the previous sessions of this exhibition. This year, we aim through our participation under the umbrella of Sharjah Commerce &Tourism Development Authority at embodying the cooperation between both bodies, and raise the awareness of the importance of the Emirate of Sharjah and its cultural, touristic, and heritage position.

Knowing that Sharjah has many distinguished museums, not only historical, art, and cultural museums but also educational, entertaining, social and environmental ones. Sharjah’s concern about different age groups as well as the special needs was a main reason of attracting great deal of visitors. The number of visitors in 2010 exceeded half a million.

We hosted a number of events, local and international exhibitions such as; “Glimpses of Courtly Splendour”, an exhibition from the Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad, India’ which displays its collection outside India for the first time. The exhibition will last till the end of March 2011. In addition to hosting the Sharjah Biennial.

ITB 2011 is the biggest exhibition of its kind where all those interested in art, and working in the tourism field are keen to attend. More than 10,000 exhibitors from 180 countries take part in this exhibition annually. By participating in it, Sharjah Museums Department seeks to hold meetings with representatives of gulf, Arab and foreign touristic bodies to highlight Sharjah and attract large number of tourists who have interest in the various cultures that exist in it. It is worth mentioning that Sharjah was chosen to be “the Capital of Arab Culture” in 1998, and lately was chosen as “the Capital of Islamic Culture 2014”.
