Sharjah Museums Department Organizes Museum Guide Training Course

The Sharjah Museums Department (SMD), in cooperation with Palmyra Travel and Tourism, recently organized a museum guide training course to improve the skills of guides and familiarizing them with the latest developments in tourism and guiding.

Ms Manal Ataya, Director General of the SMD, said that the programme was initiated to familiarize participants with modern methods and updates in museum guiding science in the local and international community.

She explained that the aim of this innovative program was to provide practical and theoretical training to participants on museum guiding methods, to highlight the most important characteristics of a successful guide, as well as to identity existing talents across a number of national sites and museums.

The five day training course included field tours to Abu Dhabi and Sheikh Zayed Mosque, and a full tour was organized to identity the typical model of national guides during work.

The group also visited Manarat Al Saadiyat where a presentation was conducted by guides in the display room. Practical activities were included to improve participants’ self-confidence, to teach them about the job of a guide, and to prepare a promising generation of tourist guides.

"The workshop provided a professional view of the skills and qualifications required for museum guiding jobs, and participants were provided with information on the necessary abilities and experiences that will enable them to organize stimulating tours across various public museums for students, young groups, families, as well as other social communities", added Ataya.
