Bee’ah Welcomes The ’Green Sheikh’ At Its Waste Management & Recycling Complex And Announces Participation At Green Middle East Forum

Green Sheikh Commends Bee’ah’s State-Of-The-Art Waste Management Innovations And Explored Areas Of Collaboration To Lead Environmental Change In The UAE

Bee’ah – the UAE’s leading integrated and award winning environmental and waste management company – hosted His Highness Sheikh Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Ali bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, well-known as the ‘Green Sheikh’ for his passion and concern for the environment, at Bee’ah’s Waste Management Complex in Al Saj’ah. The member of the ruling family of the Emirate of Ajman, the environmental adviser to the Government of Ajman and the CEO of Alihsan Charity Center, was welcomed by Bee’ah CEO Mr. Khaled Al Huraimel and members of the senior management team, where they discussed areas of collaboration in spreading environmental awareness throughout Sharjah and the UAE.

On October17th, 2011 the ‘Green Sheikh’ will be participating at the Green Middle East ‘Forum for Environmental Change’, hosted by Bee’ah, at the Sharjah Expo Centre. At the Forum, his highness will discuss the role of the government in protecting the environment, business’ roles from CSR to (CER) Corporate Environmental Responsibility and how individuals can help lead the responsible ways in leading an environmentally sustainable lifestyle to protect the UAE’s natural environment.

Mr. Al Huraimel accompanied the ‘Green Sheikh’ on a tour around Bee’ah’s state-of-the-art facilities which include the Material Recovery Facility, the Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling Facility, the Tyre Recycling Facility, the successfully engineered landfill, the compost plant, and other recycling facilities. He was also presented to the various initiatives undertaken by Bee’ah to empower the community and to set leading examples towards making an environmental change within the UAE.

“We strongly support and believe in the remarkable projects which His Highness has embarked on,” said Al Huraimel. “His highness’s participation at the Forum for Environmental Change will no doubt add a strong insight in paving the way for our community to adopt environmentally-friendly lifestyles. We are very enthusiastic to join hands with him, in our future environmental endeavours.”

With many admirers in the UAE and around the world, ‘the Green Sheikh’s advocacy to protect the environment began when he was 6, while accompanying his father on falcon hunting trips. His short time in the oil and gas industry opened his eyes to the destructive impact of human activities on the environment and motivated him to take up a career in environmental engineering.

“It’s inspirational to see these pioneering facilities which Bee’ah has invested in to bring a modern waste management system to the UAE,” commented His Highness Sheikh Dr. Al Nuaimi. “About two-thirds of the population of the UAE are unsure about their carbon footprint, let alone the available recycling centres available in our country. I am very proud and look forward to working with Bee’ah to establish even more innovative and creative projects for our nation to the better outcome of our environment.”

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Al Nuaimi holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Science and a PhD in Industrial Ecosystems. His official roles include Chairman of Ajman’s Green Base Environmental Services and Founder of the Majlis for Holistic Knowledge and Holistic Health.

Being at the forefront of positive environmental change, Bee’ah aims to turn material and physical waste into recycled resources that can be re-used by the community. Thus, the company is working towards helping people and economies prosper while using fewer inputs. The company has a responsibility to not only build the systems and infrastructure required for such a transition, but also to foster the leadership and social change required to make it successful.

Bee’ah is an organization with a clear vision, a passion for the future and one of its many goals is the education of all societies within the UAE. Through the use of international best practices, Bee’ah has successfully developed and built integrated systems and implemented programmes within Sharjah relating directly to waste management. These include: collection and storage, recycling, city beautification, education and outreach, landfill reengineering and policy development.

Bee’ah aims to carry on cultivating relationships with key institutions and industry players who share the common goal of preserving the environment. Bee’ah has partnered with international environmental bodies and commercial enterprises through to universities such as George Washington University and the American University of Sharjah; and governments, with a view to researching and developing mechanisms for sustainable methods that reduce and manage waste.
