His Excellency Sultan Bin Ahmad Al Qassimi: "It Is Impossible To Undermine The Role That The Sharjah Media Has Played In Highlighting Sharjah’s Historical And Cultural Fabric"
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, today inaugurated the headquarters of the Sharjah Media Centre, which was established on his directives to consolidate the cultural and media-related growth of Sharjah.
The Sharjah Media Center additionally aims to provide a balanced image of the emirate to the local, regional and international media, besides strengthening relationships between the media and governmental committees in Sharjah, and ensuring the accuracy of the information disseminated.
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi unveiled the commemorative plaque in the presence of a large number of governmental officials from Sharjah, senior representatives from the private sector, as well as national and regional media professionals.
Following the official inauguration, His Highness walked through the Centre’s premises accompanied by His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmad Al Qassimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation, and His Excellency Osama Samrah, Director of Sharjah Media Centre.
During the tour of the Center, His Highness was briefed on the functions of the media and communications department, finance and administration department and the events and projects department. His Highness also interacted with the Centre’s employees, which include UAE national graduates from the Communications College at the Sharjah University, as well as students specializing in related disciplines from Sharjah-based universities and other overseas media professionals.
The tour concluded with His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi launching the official website of the Sharjah Media Centre, which offers information about Sharjah and the facilities, services, membership privileges provided by the Sharjah Media Centre.
Going forward, the Centre will work towards stimulating the communication between regional and international journalists and give them the opportunity to meet with decision makers in the UAE for the purpose of exchanging ideas on issues of global relevance. Furthermore, the Centre will foster excellence in journalism through the launch of media initiatives.
His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmad Al Qassimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation, said: “As we work in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, towards strengthening the stature of Sharjah as a promising media and cultural hub, it was important to put in place enabling resources to bring this to fruition. This was embodied in establishing the Sharjah Media Centre, which will serve as a hub for media professionals and prove a credible source of information. It will also offer various training courses to ensure the capacity building of media professionals and bring them on par with international media. In addition, we aim to host economic, cultural events, and media conferences that bring together local, regional and international media thought leaders.”
Al Qassimi added: “As part of our priorities, the Center will enforce strategies that strengthen the role of the media in Sharjah. It will also benchmark media-related performance on the criteria of professionalism, excellence, creativity and responsible freedom. We will work towards exchanging expertise with media-based institutions and committees in the UAE and abroad for the sustained growth of the audio, visual, written and electronic media in Sharjah.”
His Excellency Osama Samrah, Director of Sharjah Media Centre, said: “Media is today one of the most important means of communication and the main tool to connect with the wider global landscape. In accordance to the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, we will channel all efforts to achieve the building of an authentic information generation and dissemination resource platform, which adheres to the cultural values of the country.
The Centre will work on strengthening the stature of Sharjah on the regional and international media map.
“One of our foremost mandates will be to spotlight the rapid growth and development actioned in the emirate of Sharjah. For this purpose, we will leverage strategies that highlight its huge economic growth and the continuing flow of investments for the development of high-quality projects. More importantly, we will elaborate on Sharjah’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and enabling incentives offered for the promotion of the tourism, cultural and educational sectors.”
