Bee’ah & The HFZA Share Commitment To Promote The Emirate Of Sharjah As A Leader In Environmental Responsibility

Bee’ah – the Middle East’s leading and award-winning integrated environmental and waste management company – and the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority (HFZA) have signed a three-year contract aimed at building a close working relationship to expand Bee’ah’s environment and waste management services, and establish a shared commitment to promote the emirate of Sharjah as a leader in environmental responsibility.

The contract was signed at the head office of the HFZA by Mr. Khaled Al Huraimel, the Chief Executive Officer of Bee’ah, and Dr. Rashid Al Leem, Director General of the HFZA, cementing a formal working arrangement which will see Bee’ah provide environmental expertise to the HFZA and its investors, through environmental advisory services, a solid waste collection and management system for all generated dry solid hazardous and non-hazardous waste, as well as encourage and advocate investors to implement the environmental principles of the 3Rs (reduce, re-use, recycle) and resource management, to contribute to a better and cleaner environment of Sharjah, and position the Emirate as that which puts the environment in its best interests.

Commenting on the agreement, Mr. Al Huraimel said: “The vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the UAE and Ruler of Sharjah is to stress the environment as a top priority in Sharjah. Owing to his highness’s guidance, we are pleased to extend our alliance with the Hamriyah Free Zone, one of the largest free zone in the UAE, and work together in our commitment towards asserting Sharjah as the environmental hub in our region and achieve our target of 100% landfill diversion for our emirate by 2015.”

Dr. Rashid Al Leem emphasized that this extended agreement will lead to a dramatic shift in bringing in the best environmental waste management practices such as waste segregation at source, divert waste from landfill and explore various other technologies like waste to energy.

“Sustainable development has always been a prime focus of the Hamriyah Free Zone. With a sound Green Strategy and the Sustainability Policy Statement rolled out successfully during the year 2010, we strongly believe the partnership with Bee’ah in waste management is definitely a great value addition to our existing cooperation from way back in 2008.” said Dr. Al Leem.

The HFZA is the UAE’s second biggest free zone after Jebel Ali Free Zone, and is considered one of the world’s fastest growing and dynamic free zones, and the most cost-effective free trade areas in the Middle East. It has attracted more than 5,200 companies and plays an important role in accelerating business activities within Sharjah by attracting environmentally friendly industries and enhancing the overall economic development of the country.

Bee’ah and the Sharjah City Municipality, have successfully implemented international best practices in the industry of environment and waste management throughout the Emirate of Sharjah. The company is in the process of investing in innovative tools, infrastructure and community outreach programmes, as well as partnering strategically with authorities and corporations, in order to encourage the public to practice recycling, and to meet the 100% landfill diversion objective which it has set for the Emirate of Sharjah by the end of the first quarter of 2015.
