Sharjah Media Centre Highlights Sir Bu Nair Environmental Reserves











“The Sir Bu Nair Environment Festival andSharjah’s commitmentin protecting the ecosystem is the outcome of the passion and concernofHis Highness Sheikh DrSultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjahtowards protecting cultural and environmental heritage,” said His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation and Sharjah Media Centre.

The comments came during his speech at a press conference organized today by the Environmentand Protected Areas Authorityin Sharjah to announce the 13th edition of Sir Bu Nair Environmental Festival. His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi said: "Our dependence onthe marine environment as a source oflivelihood andadventureis evident from the Sir Bu NairIsland.Itspearl diving sitesserved as a source of livelihood and contributed to the national economy of the Gulf."

His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Qassimisaid: “Government institutions in Sharjahwill come together toensure the success of the festival. In addition to highlighting the environmental, touristic and cultural importanceof Sir Bu Nair reserves, the event willpromote it as an ecotourism destination that boasts many uniquefeatures.

“The annual Sir Bu Nair festival aims to spotlightthe spirit and natural beauty of the island. The sporting, cultural and heritage activities during the event will showcase different elements that define the Sir Bu NairIsland, which is a key ecological zone in the region.”

Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation further said: “Themed‘Thesea is our lives’ the event offered unforgettable memorieslast year. I am eagerly looking forwardto this year’s festival. I have the honour of inviting you to join us at the three-day event and experience these wonderful moments again.

“The entities within Sharjah Media Corporation will mark a strongparticipation at the upcoming event. The Sharjah Media Centre has completed its preparations to ensure a unique experience for the media at the Sir Bu Nair Island as part of its first participation atthe festival this year.The centrewill additionally brief the media about Sharjah’s economic, cultural, environmental facets in order to position the emirate on global map.”

His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi concluded: “We recognize and appreciate the significant role played by the media in achieving our goals to promote the Sir Bu Nair Islandand Sharjah. We acknowledge that the media is a partner in our efforts to preserve our environment and heritage. We will disseminate information on the activities of the festival via Sharjah Radio and Television to the community. Furthermore, SharjahMedia Centre will keep the media updated on the happenings at the event.”
