This weekend will see an array of entertaining family events and the grand prize draw

The Management of Mega Mall in Sharjah has announced that an array of entertaining and educational activities will take place on Thursday, 24 May, on the sidelines of its autism awareness campaign which was launched recently under the title "Autism is not a Puzzle, it’s a challenge-Help us to Help them".

The two-month autism awareness campaign was launched by Mega Mall in collaboration with Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services and Sharjah Autism Centre, with the aim of raising public awareness about autism disorders and fostering best practices in dealing with autistic children.

Mega Mall announced that Thursday’s events will see the engagement of the Department of Interpretation and Education at Sharjah Museums Department where several art workshops for children and families shopping at the centre will be involved in these activities which aim to raise the public awareness about autism.

Mega Mall is celebrating today the lapse of the first month of the campaign which was launched to coincide with the World Autism Day, and considered the success achieved so far is great by focusing on providing moral support to Sharjah Autism Centre through organizing events and activities which contributed to educating the public about autism and how to deal with autistic cases as well as about the centre’s efforts.

The weekend programme features also storytelling sessions, theatrical shows, dancing puppet shows, puzzles and competitions, in addition to the giving away of gifts to children participating in the awareness activities. The programme also includes presentation of a prize to the best sales staff in Mega Mall for his/her role in spreading awareness among customers about autism and their chance of winning a grand prize of Dhs100,000 saving accounts with Sharjah Islamic Bank.

Apart from the moral support, the centre has allocated a significant donation that with every Dhs200 spent at Mega Mall, Dhs5 will be donated to Sharjah Centre for Autism.

It is worth mentioning that Sharjah community’s interaction with the campaign through their purchases is considered exceptional. They hold the same belief that they have to help the shopping centre provide the required support to the autism centre. This campaign was designed to offer a platform of social responsibility and humanitarian initiatives that allow for individual contribution in supporting autistic children.

Mona Bagh, General Manager of Sharjah Autism Centre, an affiliate of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, and assistant to Director General for Educational and Rehabilitation Affairs, praised the Mega Mall campaign and its activities and underlined the importance of this campaign, which targeted a large segment of the community.

She also pointed out that consultancy sessions offered by the centre through its participation are on an increase, and stressed the centre’s willingness to provide consultancies, advices and awareness guidelines for Mega Mall customers. She urged people to attend the weekend events and activities, which help foster their understanding about autism, especially, that a large number of children in this region are affected by this neurobiological disorder.
