Eight Schools In Sharjah Win The ’Sharjah Environment Awareness Award’


Most Environmentally Sustainable Schools Selected From 20 Shortlisted Projects










Each year, the Sharjah Environment Awareness Award honors schools within Sharjah, in special accomplishments, academic excellence, school spirit, and service in promoting the environment.

In the honorary attendance of Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr bin Hamad Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Public Works Department, the Bee’ah School of Environment – an initiative created by Bee’ah, the Middle East’s leading and award-winning integrated environment and waste management company –along with the founding partners Sharjah Education Zone (SEZ) and Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) and sponsor Al Ain Dairy, have announced thewinners of thesecond ‘Sharjah Environment Awareness Award’.

The winning projects were selected by each of the supporters’ representatives who meticulously evaluated 20 different schools’ projectsbased on creativity, innovation and environmental sustainability of implementing the 3R’s – reduce, re-use, recycle – implemented within the schools’ activities. This year, additional criteria have been considered, including adopting a green code within the school and demonstrating its commitment to positive environmental habits and values as well as forming and establishing an eco-club committee to involve students and teachers from the whole school.

“These winning schools demonstrate the enthusiasm and creativity students bring to sustainability, and are leading examples in the UAE for others seeking to become more sustainable,” said Khaled Al Huraimel, Chief Executive Officer of Bee’ah. “We congratulate everyone who participated, including students, teachers, staff, parents and other members of the school communities, for their innovative approaches and solutions to energy-efficiency.”

The winners in the Kindergarten category were Al Derary nursery in first place and Al-Abrar Nursery in second place; for the Elementary category, Al-Andalus School in first place and Sharjah Model Boys School in second place; for the Prepatory category, Our Own English High School in first place and Al-Hamriya Boys School in second place; and finally for the Secondary category, Waset Model School in first place and Pakistan Islamia Secondary School in second place.

Each of the winning schools were awarded flags proclaiming that they are recognized for their significant environmental contributions, along with three-stream recyclers to encourage students to recycle, and show their pride in participating in helping the environment.

The Sharjah Environment Awareness Award is an ongoing competition created under the direction of H.H Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Sharjah. It was launched by Bee’ah, through the Bee’ah School of Environment, an innovative education initiative designed to help school teachers coach pupils on environmental responsibility, along with the Sharjah Education Zone (SEZ) and Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS).
