A delegation from Bee’ah – the Middle East’s leading and award-winning integrated environment & waste management company – was invited by the Premier of Nova Scotia, His Excellency Darrell Dexter for a familiarization tour of Nova Scotia’s solid waste-resource management facilities, and took the opportunity tosign an MOU agreement to strengthen important international trade partnerships between the two regions.
His Excellency Sultan Al Mualla - Director General of Sharjah Municipality and Vice Chairman of Bee’ah, Mr. Khaled Al Huraimel - Chief Executive Officer of Bee’ah and Mr. Najib Faris - Vice President of Marketing & Awareness at Bee’ah, were welcomed to the legislation office where a resolution was passed during the General Assembly committing the government of Nova Scotia to working with Sharjah and Bee’ah in its efforts towards the environment. They were also hosted bythe Province’s variousorganisations which support Nova Scotia’s global reputation as a leader in waste management, recycling and composting.
Furthermore, Bee’ah and Waste Resource Management International (WRMI) of Nova Scotia signed an MOU to seek project and program opportunities in cooperation on environmental services including consulting, education, capacity building, communications, development, operations and policy. Both parties endeavored to form a joint committee that will outline an action plan and ensure that the goal of reducing waste generation per capita is attained towards diverting 100% of solid waste from landfill by 2015 of the Emirate of Sharjah.
“The Province of Nova Scotia and the Emirate of Sharjah share many similarities, both in our demographics as well as through our efforts to make waste diversion a priority in our communities,” said Premier Darrell Dexter. “Our two regions have already collaborated on significant educational and export opportunities. This most recent visit further builds on the strong relationship Nova Scotia has with the United Arab Emirates."
His Excellency Sultan Al Mualla said: “Bee’ah is taking the lead in environmental reform in Sharjah and the UAE, and Nova Scotia has taken the lead in this domain in Canada. Sharjah is very commitment to the environment and reaching its goal of zero-waste to landfill by the next 3 years. Bee’ah’s challenge remains the continuous development of infrastructure, as well as developing its educational and training programmes to reach the community of Sharjah and we are prepared to help them achieve that.”
Mr. Khaled Al Huraimel added that Bee’ah is currently operating and managing waste throughout the Emirate of Sharjah, and is potentially looking into expansion plans to other emirates. He added that Bee’ah is also investing in a wider range of equipment and infrastructure to develop its waste management and recycling programmes across Sharjah and the UAE.
