Sharjah Media Centre Revives Heritage Of ’Hag-El-Laila’


His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi Stresses Importance of Keeping Youth Connected with Familial and Cultural Values










His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation,underlined the importance of instilling the youth with the spirit of culture and heritage in order to keep the future generations connectedto their roots.

His Excellency’s statement came during the celebration that marked the mid Sha’ban night (Hag-El-Laila), hosted by Sharjah Media Centre. His Excellency also emphasised on the need to revive customs that reiterate the family values and social solidarity endorsed by the UAE’s forefathers.

The mid of Sha’ban (Hag-El-Laila) is an important traditional event celebrated in most of the GCC countries including the UAE, wherechildren visit theirneighbours in groups after the Asr prayer until sunset while chanting folkloric songs that are special to the occasion and collecting sweets, nuts and coins in their bags.

The young audience entertained during the event comprised orphans from Social Care Homes for Children, as well as the children of the employees at Sharjah Media Corporation and the Community Policing Department in Sharjah Police.

His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi said that the event emanating from Arabic and particularlyEmiratitradition reflects and aims to enhance the spirit of tolerance,love and social harmony among the people of the UAE. He additionallypointed out that the event seeks to highlight the beauty of theUAE’s culture as well as raise awareness among the youth. Moreover, the participation from all segments of the society, including government and private sector entities, was crucial as the event looks to lend joy to children. His Excellency called upon the community and corporations to engage in the care-taking of orphaned children and individuals with special needs not only during such events but at all times.

Sharjah Media Centre’scelebrationsaw children roam around the venuecollecting sweet treats from dedicated stations, as Emirati women demonstrated the preparation oflocal delicacies and henna arts. Traditionalcompetitions to engage the audience and promote charity and piety during the Holy Month of Ramadan where also held amidst a joyful ambience that featured a standeeoffering photo opportunities with the UAE’s cultural cartoon characters.

As part of the celebrations, Sharjah Media Centre sponsored the livecall-in radioprogramme, Al Khat Al Mubasher. The programme, aired simultaneously on Sharjah Radio and Television where the studio was outfitted with a heritage-inspired set design,featured cultural and traditional competitions that attracted a wide participation from the public.
