Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) has organized a calligraphy competition titled ‘Teach Your Students the Art of Calligraphy’, in collaboration with the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum. An exhibition titled ‘Small Fingers’ featuring the wining calligraphic works was launched on the sidelines of the ceremony, and will continue until 5 August. The Sharjah Calligraphy Museum organizes a ceremony every year to honour the winning students in recognition of their outstanding calligraphic works, which contribute to preserving the region’s calligraphic heritage, and works to further develop this art through the generations to come. The ceremony began with a reception for the winning students along with their parents at the museum, followed by a welcoming speech delivered by the master of ceremonies. This was then followed by a word of thanks and encouragement given by Buthaina Al Rasasi, curator of the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, who thanked the participating students and their teachers. The winners were honoured in appreciation of their creative works so as to encourage them to give their best and increase their skill levels and further foster their creativity. The Judging panel, which evaluated the submitted works and selected the winners, was also honoured during the ceremony. Commenting on the occasion, SMD said the calligraphy competition was aimed at fostering a love of the art of calligraphy amongst younger generations, helping them develop their talent, and increasing their focus on the Arabic language and verses from the Holy Quran. The competition also aimed to improve the Arabic language skills of the students. SMD said that such events contribute to fostering a love of the Arabic language in younger generations and increases the awareness of community members about the importance of the mother tongue in view of the spread of other languages that challenge Arabic. The event also demonstrated the noble national message and the role of calligraphy in enhancing loyalty. SMD thanked Sharjah Calligraphy Museum for organizing this distinguished competition and praised the efforts of the Museum’s team as well as its role in organizing numerous events throughout the year to serve school students.
