Qatar Airways Experiences a Slight Drop in Flights to the US

According to Qatar’s Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker, the number of Muslim passengers to the United States on Monday has slightly reduced. Their major concern was that their visas may be rejected on reaching their destinations. The CEO stressed that this issue has little effect on the business with hopes that the passengers’ fears will be allayed once the government of the United States releases an official statement regarding the matter. He further mentioned that there are no plans of reducing frequencies to the United States now or in the nearest future. Emirates, on the other hand has reduced flights to the United States by 20% last week, stating “weakened travel demand” as the reason.



15th Sharjah Heritage Days attracts over 350,000 visitors from over 30 countries

 Traditional folk dance, a performance by stand-up comedians and a story-telling session rung down the curtains of the 15th edition of the Sharjah Heritage Days, which saw 350,000 visitors from more than 30 countries attending the cultural extravaganza, held under the directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

DoubleTree by Hilton Debuts in Sharjah with $43 Million Hotel

Hilton has signed a management agreement with hospitality debutants Al Marwan Group to debut a new DoubleTree by Hilton property in Sharjah. DoubleTree by Hilton Sharjah Waterfront Hotel & Suites will offer 254 upscale suites and serviced apartments to visitors of the UAE’s third largest city. “Although less well known than its neighbors, the Emirate of Sharjah is a well frequented destination for industrial and GCC tourists,” said Carlos Khneisser, vice president of development, Middle East & North Africa, Hilton. “Responsible for nearly half of the UAE’s oil output, the Emirate is a buzz with international trade and traffic. Coupled with burgeoning demand from cultural GCC tourists, Sharjah is a prominent location to introduce our DoubleTree by Hilton brand.”



Aviation and tourism industry set to be a driving force for the Middle East economy

The aviation and tourism industry in the Middle East is set to be a driving force for the region’s economy, according to the 6th Arab Aviation Summit’s white paper. The region is expected to deliver a 5 percent growth, and connect an extra 258 million passengers to and from its airports by 2035. As such, the market size has the potential to reach 414 million passengers over the next two decades. Due to its unique geographical location, and the advantages brought forth by world-class upgrades to airport infrastructure, the predicted growth for the Middle East region will continue to boost the regional economy, leading to an increase in job opportunities across a multitude of sectors, and a further increase in indirect employment in local markets.



Second phase of Heart of Sharjah project on schedule

Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, Shurooq, has announced that progress on the second phase of the "Heart of Sharjah" development, one of the largest heritage and tourism projects in the region, is right on schedule. The announcement from Shurooq coincides with the hosting of two major heritage events in Sharjah, the Sharjah Biennial 2017, which commenced on 10th March and runs until 12th June, and Sharjah Heritage Days, a prominent cultural extravaganza due to take place from 4th - 22nd April.



SEDD places new standards for Sharjah grocery stores

The Sharjah Economic Development Department, SEDD, has announced that it placed new standards and requirements for employees in retail sales sector specific to grocery stores in the city of Sharjah. The project aims at unifying the visual form and identity to add aesthetic value to the sector and improve the level of services with advanced technologies and equipment.



Sharjah third electronic auction for special plate numbers records over AED9 million in revenue

The Sharjah Police General Directorate has announced the success of its third "Electronic Auction" for special plate numbers, organised in collaboration with Emirates Auction from March 26th to April 1st. The auction saw stern competition until the very last moments, recording over AED 9 million in revenue. The great interest shown by bidders was evident in prolonging the bidding deadline to 23:00, where 645 bidders from inside and outside the UAE competed under the watchful eyes of almost half a million people who observed the auction on their smartphones and the Emirates Auction’s website.



UAE ranks first in MENA for number of exhibitions

A report published by Explori, an exhibition industry insights provider, showed the United Arab Emirates has ranked 1st in the MENA region for organising and hosting exhibitions. The report results were revealed during a meeting held by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, UFI, at Expo Centre Sharjah. The meeting was presided by Saif Mohammed Al-Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, Chairman of UFI’s MEA Chapter, with the attendance of Mahir Julfar, Vice President of Commercial Exhibitions and Conferences at the Dubai World Trade Centre, as well as a number of CEOs and executives working in the exhibitions and conferences industry.
