Dubai Health Authority Discusses Medical Tourism Strategy With Private Sector

The Dubai Health Authority held today a workshop with the private sector entities to discuss the medical tourism strategy 2017 to 2021 and ways to strengthen medical tourism in the Emirate.

More than 49 key private sector stakeholders, government officials, members from the insurance and hospitality sector attended the workshop known as the Innovation Laboratory.

HE Humaid Al Qutami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the leadership of the UAE for their support. We have achieved a significant growth in the medical tourism sector since the inception of the program.  It is our vision to attract than 500,000 health tourists by 2020, and to become one of the leading medical tourism destinations in the world.”

At the Innovation lab, representatives brainstormed ways to further strengthen the medical tourism strategy.  In April 2014, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council approved the Dubai Medical Tourism Strategy, with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) overseeing its execution.

In 2016 under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council the brand Dubai Health experience(DXH) was launched.

Dr Layla Al Marzouqi, Director of Medical Tourism at the DHA, said: “The aim of the event aim of the event is to review our achievements and to discuss and collect recommendations on the Strategy for Health tourism 2017 – 2021 in order to create the synergy between both Private and government sector. Today Dubai is a leading health tourism destination – No 1 in the Region and 16thglobally. DHA recently announced a growth of 9.5 % over 2015 number of international medical tourist who availed health services in Dubai.”

She added that the participation of the private sector and the formation of the Health Tourism Council has helped promote medical tourism holistically across the health sector in Dubai for both elective and wellness treatments.

Dr Al Marzouqi, said: “The purpose of the event in to culminate our efforts to review and update periodically our strategies with the key stakeholders that form the ecosystem of Health tourism in Dubai.”

She added that the Authority will regularly host such workshops to help bolster medical tourism in the Emirate.
