Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has aligned its integrated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and voluntary strategy to the main objectives of the Year of Zayed. Under the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, 2018 was declared Year of Zayed to involve all members of society in achieving the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, locally, regionally, and internationally.
By aligning its CSR with the Year of Zayed, DEWA intends to promote the role of the late Sheikh Zayed in establishing the UAE, and appreciating his noble values, which are still the solid foundation of the state, as well as remembering him as one of the greatest leaders in the world. DEWA also aims to promote the late Sheikh Zayed as a symbol of patriotism, and perpetuate his cultural and humanitarian legacy, through future projects and initiatives that are aligned with his vision and values.
“Our wise leadership seeks to make 2018 an extraordinary year by declaring it to be the Year of Zayed, to raise the bar for our achievements, declare that the journey of excellence and success in the UAE has no limits, and that the late Sheikh Zayed remains a source of inspiration, for generations to come. Since then, DEWA began working to align its CSR and efforts, with the objectives of the Year of Zayed, to instil the values and vision of Zayed in the achievement of unity and humanitarian development, in the hearts of all who live on this beloved land,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“The late Sheikh Zayed always inspired us at DEWA. Today, we will expand the map of our CSR and humanitarian initiatives and programmes as a socially-responsible public body. Today, we are pleased to support our social strategy for the Year of Giving, which includes 12 programmes for 27 social initiatives that adopt the theme of the Year of Zayed in 2018. This will allow our initiatives to reflect noble and ethical values, as well as enthusiasm for doing good, to continue the path led by the late Sheikh Zayed, may his soul rest in peace, a person who was unique among leaders and pioneers of change in the world,” added Al Tayer.
“2018 will be a year of tolerance, mercy, generosity, and work to serve this nation and raise its flag, through initiatives, programmes, and projects that embody Zayed’s national and humanitarian legacy. The UAE has become an outstanding nation amongst others around the world due to its leadership’s wisdom and vision. We work under the guidance of our wise leadership to achieve the objectives of the UAE Centennial Plan, which places the Emirati people at the top of its priorities,” noted Al Tayer.
"DEWA works in accordance with a methodology of integrated institutional work to serve the community and to promote cohesion among society. Aligning DEWA’s CSR with the Year of Zayed is in line with the national initiatives and directives of the wise leadership, the objectives of the UAE Vision 2021, the Dubai Plan 2021, and DEWA’s strategy. This also includes the development of plans, implementation and evaluation within the framework of the Sustainability Report in the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) results. To implement these initiatives, DEWA cooperates with several public and private institutions to promote CSR and consolidate a spirit of volunteering among DEWA staff and members of the community, to instil the values of community service and patriotism in the hearts of the younger generations of the citizens and residents of the UAE. This achieves social happiness, and works to create a brighter future, for generations to come,” said Al Tayer.
Over the last few years, DEWA’s CSR efforts have contributed to an increase in community satisfaction and happiness, from 82% in 2013, to 89.01% in 2016. DEWA also received many international awards and certificates in CSR, including the MVO8000 Global certification in CSR, becoming the first government organisation in Dubai to receive this global recognition.
