Al Ain Classics Sweeps On With Mozart’s Marriage Of Figaro In Arabic - A First In The Gcc

Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, Al Ain Classics continued yesterday, Friday 6 March, 2009. Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro was performed in Arabic for the first time in the GCC region before a sold-out audience at the Municipality Theatre. His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Chairman "The Friends of the Al Ain Classics Festival" and Vice Chairman of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture & Heritage was in attendance, along with Mr. Till Janczukowicz, Executive Director of Abu Dhabi Classics and Dr. Aly Sadek, Founder, The Arabic Opera Project. Figaro was translated into Arabic by Dr. Sadek. He has organized recitals of six of Mozart’s operas, which he translated in London and in Vienna, where he was awarded the prestigious "Mozart Medal" and an honorary lifetime membership by the Viennese Mozart Society "Mozartgemeinde Wien". The four-act opera, performed by several outstanding Arab soloists, was supported by the exceptional Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Zbigniew Graca. The audience was dazzled by the lavish sets and sumptuous costumes, all of which contributed to make Figaro a true feast for the senses. Director Ryszard Peryt’s inspired work is characterized by the usage of symbolism and references to metaphysics, theology and art, as well as humor to portray the gamut of human emotions and spiritual conflict, all evident in yesterday’s stimulating performance of the opera. Al Ain Classics will continue until March 20, 2009, with further highlights including a concert by singer Amal Maher and the Selim Sahab Orchestra on 12 March, ending with Shakespeare’s play Richard III in Arabic on 20 March. All performances start at 20:00 hours. Tickets for the Al Ain Classics are available at www.timeouttickets.com, toll-free at 800 4669, Virgin Megastores, House of Arts Al Ain, Al Ain Rotana Hotel and at the evening box office. Tickets are priced at AED 50 for adults, AED 30 for students and children. Seats are not numbered, free seating.
