The French Algerian writer to sign his latest book at the BIEF stand
Culture and Co the French bookstore of the Emirates has announced its active participation at the Abu Dhabi Book Fair to start on the 17th March 2009 at the ADNEC - Abu Dhabi Exhibition Center.
The BIEF French pavilion - International Agency of the French Book Publishing Industry – will witness a series of events including a book signing by the famous French Algerian author Yasmina Khadra. The session will also include a media gathering with the writer.
“The Book fair is a natural place for us to be with our cultural partners, in order to promote the French culture and lifestyle, targeting all French speaking communities in the region but also all those who are interested in French culture and way of life in general.” Renata Sader, owner of Culture & Co the Emirates French bookstore said “our presence at the BIEF French Pavilion along with the French Alliances and the series of activities that will be conducted will reflect our commitment to the expansion of the French Culture in the region, she added”
The activities program will include a round table at the Abu Dhabi University, on March 21st with famous writers such as; French speaking Yasmina Khadra, Assia Djebar and Elias Khoury as well as Saoudi Rajaa Alsanea, Lebanese Hoda Barakat and Swedish Henning Mankell.
This will be followed by Khadra’s book signing at the BIEF pavilion and a debate with the author around the theme “Writing politics and understanding violence” at Kitab Sofa salon at the Exhibition Center.
“ Yasmina Khadra, who also happens to be the Director of the Algerian Alliance in Paris, has a unique understanding of both the French and the Arab cultures having grown up in Algeria and lived in France for the last 10 years, “commented Leila Kernoua, Director of the French Alliance in Abu Dhabi.” This is depicted in his last book “What the day owes to the night” and for us it was an obvious choice to invite him to participate to the debates, round tables and conferences that will go with the Book Fair” She added
Sader concluded:” We want to praise the BIEF participation in this book fair, thus reinforcing the French commitment to the region, in terms of culture, book publishing and arts in general.”
