Global Critical Care Conference Opens Tomorrow In Abu Dhabi


Capital to Host First Ever International Best of SCCM 2019 Conference










Abu Dhabi’s thriving medical eco-system will be on the global stage when the capital plays host to the first ever 1st International Best of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) 2019 conference, which opens tomorrow and is being held November 20-23, 2019 at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers.

This high level meet is a collaboration between the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), the largest non-profit medical organization in the world dedicated to promoting excellence and consistency in the practice of critical care and Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC). It brings together more than 600 international delegates with the aim of sharing and discussing the latest trends and breakthroughs in critical care medicine and also gives experts the opportunity to focus attention on several important aspects including the use of new tools, technologies and processes.

Participating in the seminar and delivering specific addresses will be representatives from the faculties of such renowned institutions as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Weill-Cornell College of Medicine, Mount Sinai Medical Centre, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Durham VA Medical Center and King Faisal Research Institute

Dr. Ahmed Reda Taha, MD, FCCM, Critical Care Institute, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City and chair of the Local Organizing Committee for the event, elaborated on the major event and said, “We have over 16,000 members from more than 100 countries in the SCCM. This large family has common purpose in improving medical care per se and we are proud and privileged that the UAE which accounts for 26 percent of the healthcare costs in the GCC has been given the honor of staging this meet.”

Dr Taha added, “As the single largest global entity representing all the major medical cadres and covers patient care, education, research and advocacy, such a coming together has great significance because it acts as a summit meeting for the world’s top medical minds and affords an opportunity for the finest practitioners in the profession to exchange ideas and share their knowhow.”

“The SCCM has a clear and unwavering commitment to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients and with this partnership SKMC will strive to maintain our standards and our position as the regional benchmark for medical excellence,” he concluded.

Pertinent topics on the conference agenda will include Patient- and Family-Centered Care, Big Data and Quality Measures, Optimizing Antibiotic Use in the ICU and Best Practices in Ultrasound, Pediatric ECMO and Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. There will also be two special workshops on Day 1 focusing on Current Concepts in Adult Critical Care and Current Concepts in Pediatric Critical Care.
