Better Environment Programme Builds Culture Of Environmental And Personal Health At UAE Schools

The Ministry of Education, in cooperation with Shell, held a series of evaluation sessions this week as part of its Shell Better Environment Program 2009-2010, a coordinated initiative designed to enable schools across the UAE to implement environmental, health and safety projects among their students.

The evaluations took place at the Australian International School in Sharjah on May 4th and at the Al Afaq School in Abu Dhabi on May 6th as a chance for participating schools to showcase what they have accomplished since the beginning of their respective programs. This is part of the lead up to the Better Environment Awards’ ceremony to be held on May 25th, during which the most successful school projects to actively engage students will be announced this year’s Better Environment Awards’ winners. Decisions will be made by a board of representatives from educational, environmental and health authorities across the UAE. The winning schools will get a commemorative trophy and a certificate signed by the UAE Ministry of Education.

The BEA partnership between Shell and the Ministry of Education encourages school students to actively take up the cause of protecting and preserving their environment as well as their own health and safety, in both the short and long term.
